At first, you might find it a bit difficult to get into the Christmas spirit in the Phoenix area with temperatures approaching 80 degrees. Luckily there are quite a few impressive light displays in the valley that can help get you into the holiday spirit.

Lights of the World

This event is billed as the biggest in North America and is inspired by traditional lantern festivals in China. This takes place at the Arizona State Fairgrounds and runs through the early New Year. Many cultures and civilizations from around the world are represented and more than 10 million lights make up this impressive display. There are also carnival rides and performances for all ages.

Phoenix Zoo ZooLights

ZooLights has become quite popular with both native Arizonans and snowbirds alike. With about 2 ½ million lights placed throughout the zoo, this is something not to be missed. You can also ride a camel or carousel and every hour there’s an orchestrated light show. New animated displays are also added each year.

Glendale Glitters

This event kicks off each year the weekend after Thanksgiving but runs until Christmas. It features plenty of lights and vendors as well as horse-drawn carriage rides. The downtown area becomes home to about one million twinkling lights. You can even check out the closing ceremonies in January which feature a huge block party with hot air balloons and live music.

Las Noches de las Luminarias

More than 7,000 luminaries light the elegant grounds of the Desert Botanical Gardens each December. There are musicians including strolling mariachis and plenty of food available, but be sure to purchase tickets early because one of the most unique holiday celebrations in Phoenix often sells out.
